ZERO Online
Page 1 of 6 W ell past three in the morning Professor Madigeen was toiling away in his laboratory, moving florescent glowering beakers to and from with the importance of a canine burying his last and only bone, although it had been eons since anyone had seen a canine. In fact, it had been nearly 200 years since anyone had seen anything resembling a dog. Sure there were the animatrons but they were simple, silly creatures without a soul, occasionally turning on their owners which, at least to Professor Medigeen, provided a bit of blackened humor to his otherwise unanimated worldview. Under the flames he mixed a cacophony of dissonance in the hopes that this chemical caterwaul would unveil yet another piece in the puzzle, a puzzle so complex that madmen like Professor Madigeen were a dime a dozen. It seemed that back then, back in 2240 everyone with a remedial knowledge of chemical engineering and a two dollar lab coat was a basement alchemist. However, these madmen, these fanatical zealots of science, were the missing link, the Rosetta stone if you will, of engineering, for they engineered the substances that ignited the Gems and allowed them to operate as the fabricated fuel they were so prized for, and back then, everyone was looking to get rich quick.
How can you get rich of these most valued of gems? Well, it just so happened that the government, a government much like your own, had developed a new method of policing its people. These Mechanical Elementally Charged Hybrids (Mechs) were nothing more than an electronic ersatz developed to combat the mounting invasions from foreign combatants.
Prior to their development mankind had succumb to numerous attacks from foreign enemies with far superior technologies. Sensing impending doom and the inevitable annihilation of the human race the world’s governments, working in collusion with one another, and relying heavily on the advanced technology of the enemies, built the world’s first MECH. This awesome fighting machine was the answer to the world’s dubious dilemma of foreign invaders. Soon the world was manufacturing these MECH’s faster than rabbits multiply. The processing of these metallurgic monsters was the only thing the worlds governments focused their myopic eye on. Due to this lack of infrastructure people ran amuck rioting, looting, and ravaging the stores, the land and each other. Anarchy ensued and aside from the mass manufacturing and distribution of MECHs nearly every industry failed. Government’s toppled, big business was eradicated and the razing of land and property was a plight caused by the people. ![]() ![]() ![]()
