EA’S BATTLEFORGE GAME GIVES AWAY MUSIC PACK FOR FREE

Just Five Weeks Until March 24th Launch of Epic Action RTS
and Fantasy Gamers Are Gearing up to Play Online With Friends

EA announced today that Phenomic, the team behind BattleForge, is giving away in-game and remixed music for free in a track pack called MetalForge Bonus Trax Pack. The music in this RTS trading card game adds to the gameplay experience with its epic score and grandiose instrumentation.

Phenomic teamed up with the Dynamedion Music Group, a 40-piece orchestra, to give each faction its own unique sound – fire, frost, nature, and shadow. The MetalForge Bonus Trax Pack includes three tracks called, “Giantsbane”, “Viridia’s Demise” and “MetalForge” – which are available now for free at www.battleforge.com for a limited time.

To accompany the MetaForge music giveaway, players can also download a special behind-the-scenes trailer that captures the making of the BattleForge soundtrack. The full BattleForge soundtrack is available for purchase at www.ea.com/eatrax and other digital music retailers.

BattleForge combines strategy, fantasy, trading cards and magical spells in a dynamic online environment. The game gives players use of virtual trading cards to build the perfect army and lay waste to their foes. Combining the strategic, real-time gameplay of classics such as Command &ConquerTM with a fully enabled, online collectible community, BattleForge is a breath of fresh air in the strategy genre. With an all-new style of play that is more accessible for casual gamers, BattleForge still offers the depth of gameplay that more sophisticated RTS players seek. The collectable cards are the tools of war -- each representing a spell, building or unit that is conjured directly onto the battlefield.

BattleForge features single-player and cooperative scenarios, as well as Player vs. Player (PvP) ranked and unranked duels. With co-op play, guilds, chat rooms, and a robust marketplace featuring direct trade, an auction hall, and in-game mail, BattleForge is the first RTS to combine the social and community aspects of an MMO with an exciting RTS.  Let the battles begin!

BattleForge ships March 24th, 2009 for the PC.  Sign up for the Beta at www.BattleForgeCardHunt.com. For more information visit www.battleforge.com.

It has been awhile since an online real time strategy game has come to life; however this preview will surely surprise you all. BattleForge, published by Electronic Arts (EA Games), has received a lot of positive feedback from a range of online communities. BattleForge can only be played online, with some maps holding up to 12 players. Rounds can last up to an hour, or perhaps longer depending on the scenario. Players can choose to work together in co-operative modes or verse each other in ranked or unranked battles.

http://cgenetwork.com/images/stories/BattleForge/BF_Feature%20(2).jpg

The game contains an unusual, yet extraordinary card summoning system in order for you to build your army. There are four types of factions (or card classes); fire, frost, nature and shadow. Each faction has its own abilities and weaknesses. Fire is considered an aggressive faction, whereas frost is considered to be defensive. Players can hold up to 20 cards in their deck, which can be played or summoned while in game. Currently you can collect over 200 unique cards, which can be found in booster packs or exchanged using BattleForge (BF) points.

Booster packs are all online virtual goods, and you will never be able to physically obtain the cards in real life. As usual you will obtain doubles and sometimes triples; in any case you simply sell them in the market zone to other players or trade them for other cards online. Each and every card on BattleForge contains a rarity rank; common, uncommon, rare and ultra-rare. Your deck can contain mixed cards from one or all factions; however summoning them is a little more complicated.

Each card contains specific information which needs to be taken into account before using the card in battle. For instance, Tremor (shown above), requires 130 power and 1 ice orb and 2 other orbs in order to summon. Each card also contains the amount of damage they deal and how much life (or HP) they contain. The colour of the card also indicates which faction it belongs too. Each card in game contains a cool-down rate or charge limit, which prevents certain cards from being summoned repeatedly. Depending on the rarity of the card, the cool-down for summoning will vary greatly. Players can hold three types of cards in their deck; units, buildings and spells (or godspells).

Units are considered your main army and can consist of ground and air units. Buildings are used in order to defend or enhance units, with various buildings containing special abilities (i.e. healing, self-destruct, freeze units, etc). Finally, spell cards are those which can be summoned on the battlefield in order to destroy or buff enemy or allied units. Spell cards include, meteor rites, blizzard storms, frenzy rage, expulsion and many more.

In order for you to obtain power (the main resource in game), you need to obtain power stations. When you begin your first game you will notice that you will already hold a few power stations to begin with, including a monument (which holds your orb). Each power house helps increase your overall power pool each second. In other words the more power houses you hold the more power points you will obtain per second. Obtaining a power house costs 100 power. Each power house has a total power limit of 1500 power. After which the power house shuts down and is no longer active on the map. Monuments are also scattered around the map and cost slightly more power to obtain. Your first monument is decided upon what card you first summon.

http://cgenetwork.com/images/stories/BattleForge/BF_Feature%20(4).jpg

When you first commence you will only be able to summon monsters which contain one (1) orb, related to the orb held in your monument. In other words, if your monument holds a fire orb, you can only summon fire cards containing a 1 fire orb requirement. Your next monument will cost 150 power and you will be asked what orb you wish to activate, whether its fire, frost, nature or shadow. If your deck was a specialised fire deck – then you would only be activating fire orbs on all of your monuments. Mixed decks containing both fire and frost will require you to activate both fire and frost orbs. Enemy units can destroy your power houses and monuments, which will result in a loss of income and the ability to summon units, buildings or spells which require additional orbs. Monuments also have an auto-attack function which can hit both land and air units. The damage given by monuments is not sufficient enough to take down an army; therefore it is wise to have each of your monuments protected by units or defensive buildings, such as towers.

The aim of the game is simply to destroy your enemy by getting rid of all of their units and buildings. You will find that most online player verse player games involve both sides trying to obtain their 3rd or final orb, in order to summon their greater cards. Rushing your enemy and preventing them from building their 3rd orb can be a difficult task, however it is vital to ensure you survive. You will also notice that most player verse player games will hardly result in anyone building their 4th (or final) orb, as both sides are constantly under intense pressure.

The game proves to be a great success under its beta stage and has obtained a lot of publicity throughout the world. The graphics displayed in game are stunning and show every bit of detail from the rocks on the ground moving to units casting unique specials. Each card also contains a unique sound and movement style which makes the game stand out from the others. Purchasing this game for only $49.99 USD and not having to pay for any monthly fees certainly indicates a successful and enjoyable gaming experience at an affordable price. With the option to purchase additional BattleForge points (or BF Points) at only $19.99 for 2000 BF points – allows gamers to obtain 8 additional booster packs or the ability to bid on cards in the player market zone. Each booster pack contains 8 cards, with 5 common, 2 uncommon and 1 rare or ultra-rare cards, guaranteed. This game will certainly become a big hit – I encourage all gamers to give it a shot!
